On July 31, 1964, these three ships departed from Gibraltar on a 30,656-mile, unreplenished circumnavigation of the globe, to showcase the advantages of nuclear power. Known as “Operation Sea Orbit,” the cruise ended on October 3, 1964 at Charleston, South Carolina
