“Even though not all homosexuals are pedophiles, all pro-homosexual arguments are pro-pedophile arguments. Name me one that isn’t. Born this way, check. Deeply felt urges and yearnings, check. Who’s to say what’s normal, check. There is not one pro-homosexual argument that cannot be enlisted in the service of toppling the next taboo, whatever that remaining and increasingly lonely taboo might be.” —

Douglas Wilson (via sds)

Let’s try a little thought experiment here…

Even though not all Christians are assholes, all pro-Christian arguments are pro-asshole arguments. Name me one that isn’t. Taught to be this way, check. Deeply held beliefs and self-importance, check. Who’s to say what’s socially acceptable, check. There is not one pro-Christian argument that cannot be enlisted in the service of championing the next character flaw, whatever that remaining and increasingly common character flaw might be.

You’ll forgive me if I take the deepest offense at the comparison of my gay and lesbian friends and family as having anything at all in common with pedophiles.

Fuck. Right. Off.

Hmmm. You’ll forgive me if I conclude that you don’t know how to read, or how to follow an argument, or understand the ineffectiveness of ad hominem attacks.

(via sds)

You know what, @apologeticskeptic?  I’ll go right ahead and accept your revision of the argument.  As long as you’ll concede that not all Christians are assholes, which you have, I’ll happily agree that pro-Christian arguments could be used as pro-asshole arguments, provided we agree that assholes deserve freedom of speech as much as anyone, and that assholes, like everyone, are best responded to in love.

“Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit, all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided. It’s the sound of failure: so much modern art is the sound of things going out of control, of a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. The distorted guitar sound is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. The blues singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry too powerful for the throat that releases it. The excitement of grainy film, of bleached-out black and white, is the excitement of witnessing events too momentous for the medium assigned to record them.” — Brian Eno, A Year With Swollen Appendices (via fleurlungs)
